The Lower Austrian dairy NÖM AG has commissioned Kardex Mlog to build a new logistics center at the Baden near Vienna site. The contract includes the construction of a fully automated dispatch warehouse with a capacity of up to 26,000 pallet storage locations, as well as the installation of the conveyor technology.
As the general contractor, Kardex Mlog is responsible for the overall project coordination – including rack steel construction, roof and wall cladding, as well as the delivery of two electric overhead monorail systems for in-plant transport. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on 23 June 2025, with completion and commissioning planned for April 2027.
NÖM AG is one of the leading companies in Austrian dairy industry. The product range includes around 1,000 items, including milk, yogurt, quark, butter and dairy beverages. Each year the
company processes around 450 million kilograms of milk, sourced from more than 2,200 farms in the region. Distribution is Europe-wide, with a focus on eastern Austria and northern Italy.
With an average daily dispatch volume of around 2,200 pallets, the existing logistics system has reached its capacity limits. The new dispatch warehouse is intended to significantly increase the performance of the supply chain and meet the heightened requirements for speed and precision in goods handling.
Material flow and warehouse management with SAP EWM and electric overhead monorail
A central element of the new logistics solution is the fully automatic control via the material flow and warehouse management system SAP EWM. The integration of an electric overhead monorail enables a direct connection of the new dispatch warehouse to the goods-out area. This optimizes internal traffic and
reduces the number of necessary truck trips. According to Josef Simon, board member for Production and Technology at NÖM AG, the structural integration of the new hall will achieve an annual saving of over 10,000 truck trips.
Moreover, the new construction takes place on already sealed land, so no additional land sealing is necessary—a factor also relevant from an ecological perspective.
Kardex references in the dairy industry
The decision to select Kardex Mlog was made, among other reasons, due to the company's extensive references in the dairy industry. The close and collaborative cooperation with the involved supplier companies also played an important role in awarding the contract, according to NÖM's Head of Logistics, Christoph Posawetz, emphasizes.
