As part of the Conference Days 2025, the purely digital B2B knowledge and networking event of HUSS-VERLAG GmbH, Continental Reifen Deutschland GmbH presented its latest developments in digital tire management on May 13 from 9:00 to 10:00 am on the "Truck & Bus" stage. Under the title "Digital Tire Management for Improved Fleet Mobility," Jan Engelbart (Digital Solutions Manager) and Stefanie Schütt (Product Manager) presented practical solutions for optimizing operating costs, CO₂ balance, and vehicle availability in the commercial vehicle sector.

The focus of the session was the "ContiConnect" system, which enables real-time monitoring of tire conditions through tire sensors. Fleet operators receive precise information on pressure, temperature, and mileage. The system supports predictive maintenance and reduces manual inspection efforts. According to Continental, this can:

  • Reduce tire breakdowns by up to 85%
  • Increase mileage by up to 15%
  • Extend carcass life by up to 20%
  • Improve fuel efficiency by up to 4%

Three application solutions are available:

  • ContiConnect Life: the free entry into digital tire management. The Bluetooth
  • signals of the tire sensors are read out via app, notifications provide information about the tire condition.
  • ContiConnect Pro - Yard: for vehicles with regular depot contact. A stationary yard reader automatically reads the sensor data within a radius of 20 meters and transmits it to a web portal. Ideal for centralized analysis and visualization of tire data.
  • ContiConnect Pro - Live: for permanent monitoring during driving. On-vehicle hardware transmits all data in real-time to the web portal. Push notifications inform of impending damage. The system can be used across manufacturers, offers reports, dashboards, and API interfaces for integration into existing systems, and enables a virtual tire warehouse. Service partners and workshops can also be connected to the system.

The installed sensors measure not only tire pressure and temperature but also calculate mileage. They have a battery life of around four years, are connected via RF and Bluetooth, mounted on the inside of the tire tread, and are suitable for any tire brand. Continental offers them as standard

equipment from the factory.

Efficiency through Retreading and Optimized Products

In addition to digitization, Continental emphasized the importance of retreading as a building block for CO₂ reduction. Hot and cold retreading significantly extend the life of tires and reduce costs — with the note that retreaded tires should not be used on the steering axle for comfort reasons.

An example of sustainable performance is the Conti Urban HA 5 for city buses: high ride comfort, low rolling resistance, improved mileage, and unrestricted retreadability — while maintaining high traction throughout its life cycle.

Continental's commercial vehicle tire portfolio covers the areas of freight transport, passenger transport, construction sites, and winter use — each with differentiated product lines for long-distance, regional, and urban transport as well as on-/off-road applications.

Regulatory Focus: Vecto, EU Taxonomy, and UNECE Regulations

Tire development takes place against the backdrop of growing regulatory requirements. In particular, the EU taxonomy demands products with the best rolling resistance and noise classes. Additionally, the Vecto Tool (Vehicle Energy Consumption

Calculation Tool) is incorporated into the calculation of fleet target values for vehicle manufacturers. For example, city buses must emit 90% less CO₂ by 2030 compared to 2019, and intercity and travel buses 43% less. Tire abrasion is also gaining importance: with UNECE Regulation No. 117, a standardized test procedure has been established, paving the way for including this metric in the tire label.

Digital Forum for Logistics Decision Makers

The session was part of the Conference Days 2025 — a purely digital B2B event by HUSS-VERLAG, which will be held for the fifth time from May 12 to 15, 2025, on CONFERENCE-DAYS.de. Already in 2024, over 1,100 participants used the online format to inform themselves about current developments in logistics, transport, and commercial vehicle technology in 30 live sessions. The platform offers numerous digital opportunities for networking and exchange between participants and partners in addition to knowledge transfer.
