The automotive chemical manufacturer Liqui Moly has introduced a new concept for professional brake fluid service. The core of the system is the device “Brake Fluid Tronic”, which is intended to simplify the replacement of brake fluid and the bleeding of hydraulic brake systems. According to the company, the solution is aimed at workshops that want to make their brake service more efficient and safer.
The device is designed for single-person operation and features Electronic Pressure Control (EPC), which ensures a constant flow pressure and automatic re-regulation. A digital display and processor-controlled control mechanisms facilitate operation and are intended to ensure consistent results.
Consistent performance thanks to electronic pressure control
According to the company, this electronic pressure control offers several advantages in use.
“The electronic pressure control has many
advantages in application,” emphasizes Markus Scherl, application engineer and project lead at Liqui Moly. “The central control unit with a digital pressure display and processor-controlled control mechanisms make handling intuitive and ensure a constant flow pressure along with automatic readjustment for consistent performance.”
Included in the scope of delivery are the device, a standard adapter covering 90 percent of all vehicles, and a collection container. This allows the drained liquid volume to be measured precisely. For vehicles for which the standard adapter does not fit, the manufacturer offers an additional set with five more adapters, including one specifically for clutch systems.
Complete service concept for workshops
The Brake Fluid Tronic system is part of a comprehensive service offering. In addition to the brake fluids themselves, it includes further tools
required for brake service, as well as technical support via the service line, promotional materials, and the so-called Oil Guide, which helps workshops choose suitable operating materials.
Scherl notes that the replacement intervals for brake fluids prescribed by vehicle manufacturers should be strictly observed – regardless of mileage. Since brake fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture from the air, its boiling point can drop over time. This creates the risk that the braking system may no longer function reliably.
“A professional brake fluid service is therefore essential and with our Brake Fluid Tronic particularly efficient, safe and easy to perform,” says Scherl.
Company background
Liqui Moly has been developing and producing motor oils and additives in Germany since 1957. The company offers a range of around 4,000 products, including
oils, additives, greases, sprays, care products as well as adhesives and sealants. The products are distributed in about 150 countries.
What does that mean?
The new concept could be a way to make brake service more precise and resource-saving. An automated pressure regulation reduces the workload and minimizes sources of error – an advantage when it comes to safety-critical components.
For fleet operations, the aspect of maintenance safety should not be underestimated: Well-maintained braking systems are not only a safety factor but also a contribution to the longevity and efficiency of the vehicles. Whether the system will establish itself in practice in the long term, however, depends on how smoothly it can be integrated into existing workshop processes—and whether the investment remains economically attractive for businesses.
