The spare parts brand Elring is launching a new product group for the aftermarket with a focus on plastic oil pans. The first product is a truck plastic oil pan suitable for the Daimler Truck diesel engine family "OM 471", which is now available under Elring part number B36.520. The ready-to-install oil pan is delivered including sealing and mounting technology. For the
engine families Iveco Cursor 11 and 13, further applications are already in development. Elring's goal with this product line is to establish plastic oil pans as a permanent part of the aftermarket portfolio.
Suitable for commercial vehicles and coaches
The new plastic oil pan compatible with Mercedes-Benz "OM 471" is compatible with other vehicle models:
- Actros MP4 and MP5
- Antos
- Arocs
- Travego
According to the manufacturer, the truck plastic oil pan was developed specifically for the requirements of the commercial-vehicle sector. It is designed to withstand consistently high operating temperatures in the engine bay as well as temperature fluctuations from cold starts. The manufacturing provides sealing and reduces the number of individual parts required, which simplifies the assembly process. Due to the flexibility of
the material, shocks and vibrations can be absorbed more effectively.
The use of thermoplastics also enables a weight reduction compared with traditional metal oil pans. Plastic also has a lower thermal conductivity, which improves thermal insulation and increases the engine's efficiency. Furthermore, thermoplastics are corrosion resistant. This is an advantage over metal, which can rust under the influence of moisture or road
