The automotive diagnostics and measurement technology specialist AVL DiTEST has launched "practiCABLE", a solution for testing Mode 2 (IC-CPD) and Mode 3 charging cables for electric vehicles. "practiCABLE" was developed for use by testing organizations and in workshops. It enables fully automated and standardized safety and functional testing.

at AVL DiTEST. "Our goal was to provide a system that not only convinces technically but also actively supports the transformation in workshop practice and in testing organizations."
It is legally mandatory in Germany to perform a charging cable inspection on commercially used vehicles, Kornsteiner said.

The robust standalone case of "practiCABLE" enables easy handling. It offers predefined test plans according to manufacturer
specifications as well as individually configurable autotest sequences. The measurement results can be transmitted via Bluetooth or USB and documented in test reports.

Nina Kornsteiner emphasizes: „The topic of electromobility is becoming increasingly important for workshops as the share of electric cars
grows. We can see this in the rising registrations of electric vehicles.“
In Austria, it was already 22 percent in the first half of 2025, and in Germany 17 percent. Accordingly, there is also a growing need for standards-compliant charging cable testing. Operators who want to prepare professionally for these new framework conditions would have a solution in "practiCABLE" with which one can work efficiently, in accordance with standards, and without electrotechnical prior knowledge.
