The wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has put eleven fully electric Volkswagen “e-Transporters” into operation. The vehicles are equipped with the One Click vehicle outfitting system developed by Sortimo and are to be deployed in the company's global service fleet. The “e-Transporter” is, alongside the “ID. Buzz Cargo,” another fully electric model from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
Vestas decarbonizes the service fleet
According to the company, Vestas aims to fully decarbonize its own operations by 2030 – without offsetting measures. About 80 percent of the emissions therefore arise in the service sector, which is where the biggest lever for reduction lies.
Already today, about 25 percent of the global fleet consists of vehicles with alternative propulsion systems, including electric and biofuel vehicles. With the new vans, the share of fully electric units will continue to rise.
"In targeted lean workshops, we jointly designed the interior of the e-Transporter to meet Vestas' specific service requirements. This collaboration brings us a significant step closer to the sustainable decarbonization of our fleet," comments Vestas fleet chief Kim Stenberg on the move.
Sortimo One Click vehicle outfitting: modular elements extend the basic rack
The Sortimo vehicle outfitting is designed for durability and reusability. The
core of the concept is a standardized basic rack that can be extended or altered with modular elements. The exchange is tool-free and requires no workshop stay. Large fleets such as Vestas' can thus save material, reduce downtime, and use the equipment over multiple vehicle lifecycles.
Furthermore, the lower weight positively affects energy consumption and thus the range of the e-Transporters, according to Sortimo. The service teams benefit from an adaptable work environment that can be tailored to changing deployment scenarios.
Sortimo CEO Reinhold Braun points to the efficiency advantages of the system:
"With the One Click System, we
offer Vestas a solution that is not only economically viable but also ecologically future-proof. Less weight, less effort, more impact. On the road and in the everyday work of service technicians," says Braun.
And Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles board member Lars Krause emphasized immediate factory readiness:
"With the new Volkswagen e-Transporter, we expand the basis for an emission-free service fleet. In combination with Sortimo's One Click System, an export-ready vehicle is created at the factory that is ready for immediate use and precisely tailored to the customer's requirements," says Krause.
