Schwarz Digits and Deutsche Bahn announced on August 20 the next phase in building a European data and AI platform: with the official founding of DataHub Europe GmbH and an experienced dual leadership, the joint venture now aims to move into the operational phase. The goal is to create a secure, legally compliant and sovereign data space for companies, public institutions and research, complemented by powerful tools for the development and operation of AI applications.
Dr. Daniela Gerd tom Markotten, Vorständin Digitalisierung und Technik bei der Deutschen Bahn:
“The DataHub Europe is for Deutsche Bahn another important building block to bring its own AI projects — from preventive maintenance to energy optimization to quality assurance — faster, scalable and legally compliant into operation.”
Christian Müller, Co-CEO von Schwarz Digits:
“With DataHub Europe we are creating a European alternative to platform providers that do not share our values. We enable AI innovation in a sovereign, GDPR-compliant framework – with data centers and cloud infrastructure in Europe.”
High-security data space for GDPR-compliant data exchange
Following the formal clearance by EU authorities in July, the platform intends to offer a modular portfolio of capabilities. A core component is a high-security data space that enables GDPR-compliant data exchange for companies and organizations, according to the cooperation partners. In addition, the “Data & AI Workbench” provides a comprehensive digital infrastructure: It acts as a “digital toolbox” and provides common standards, specialized toolsets, expert knowledge and scalable computing resources with which AI projects can be developed, tested and deployed productively. According to the press release, the aim is to accelerate innovation cycles, reduce development costs, and foster data-driven cooperation between industry, research and public administration. A marketplace for curated data products should complement the offering, facilitate data reuse, and unlock new data-driven business models.
Helaba as a new partner
“AuditGPT”, an AI-assisted digital auditing assistant, which is intended to support employees in internal auditing in the preparation of audit reports, is intended to exemplify the business model of DataHub Europe. The solution is now in production at Schwarz Digits and Deutsche Bahn after a successful pilot phase. As part of the joint venture, AuditGPT is to be further developed in the next step into a market-ready application.”
