Eurotrade Flughafen München Handels GmbH is a 100-percent subsidiary of Munich Airport and is responsible for the entire retail business at the site. With more than 40 shops and the operation of the central logistics center, the company claims to ensure that thousands of items arrive on time directly at the terminals every day. Previously, the workforce worked with classic MDTs, which, especially in the high-bay warehouse at high speed, led to unnecessary delays and errors. Therefore, Eurotrade was looking for a new, more efficient solution.
The service provider has introduced Nimmsta Smart Watches to digitalize central core processes. The Smart Watches are in continuous operation today, 365 days a year, from the early shift to the late shift. Daily, around 1,200 orders with about 4,000 line items are processed. The items are located in pallet racking and are loaded onto picking carts, which are subsequently transported to the respective shops or supply units of the airport.
Previously, classic MDTs had to be picked up and placed down at every scan, a
process prone to errors, time-consuming and physically demanding, which added up to several hours daily.
With the Nimmsta Smart Watch, that changed. The employees wear the Smart Watch directly on the back of the hand, ergonomically positioned. Through the touch display, the respective order is selected, storage location, item information and quantities are displayed on the screen. After the scan, feedback follows: visual, audible, haptic and, if needed, also with a correction hint.
Since the introduction of the Nimmsta Smart Watch, Eurotrade, according to the provider,
has been able to make picking in the high-bay warehouse more efficient and error-free. Each scan is confirmed visually, audibly and haptically, which reduces sources of error. From the employees' perspective, the solution is convincing as well: In an internal survey that covered aspects such as ergonomics, modularity, handling and everyday practicality, the Smart Watch received an average of nine out of ten points.
