Frank Dreeke (66), who served as Chairman of the BLG Logistics Group until 2024, will be inducted into the Logistics Hall of Fame. This is reported by a press release dated September 25. Dreeke has, in more than four decades in various roles, shaped the development of the seaport and logistics industry far beyond his entrepreneurial duties and is regarded as a catalyst and architect of a modern seaport logistics, according to the jury.
“Frank Dreeke has, with strategic foresight and a consistent focus on efficiency and sustainability, driven forward landmark changes in seaport logistics and created structures that have yielded lasting impact. His contribution lies in many, sometimes quiet, but decisive turning points. He has opened ports, made collaborations possible, broken
up monopolies, redistributed risks, advanced sustainability—and he has never hesitated to name the issues for what they are,” explains Anita Würmser, Executive Jury Chair of the Logistics Hall of Fame, the jury’s decision, which is composed of 70 experts from business, science, politics and media across 13 nations.
“A Sense for Turning Points”
The native of Bremen, according to the jurors, has a sense for turning points. In the late 1990s he was General Manager Central Europe for SeaLand and co-initiator of the North Sea Terminals Bremerhaven, a joint venture between BLG, Maersk Line and SeaLand. This project remains a milestone and blueprint not only for later joint ventures but also for the general opening of German ports to shipping lines, according
to the press release. In 2013 he implemented technological investments in contract logistics on the BLG board, without himself acting as owner of the property. With the expansion of the rail company BLG Autorail he established real competition to Deutsche Bahn in the automotive transport segment for the first time, the jurors argue. And finally he early on focused on sustainability as a strategic element, from terminals through transport processes to low-emission vehicles. Beyond his corporate roles he was active as a representative, among others in the Central Association of German Port Operators (ZDS) and in the German Transport Forum (DVF), where he continues to fight for the systemic relevance of the ports and to set impulses for investment measures.
Frank Dreeke
began his career in 1987 at Network Containerfrachtagentur, the then SeaLand agency in Germany – after completing training as a shipping merchant and a business administration degree at the DAV. He subsequently held positions as General Manager Central Europe at SeaLand, at Maersk Line and at the Bremer EKB Container Logistik, before moving to the BLG board in 2013, which he chaired until 2024. Today, Dreeke serves as President of the Presidium of the German Transport Forum in Berlin.
Officially inducted into the Logistics Hall of Fame will be Frank Dreeke as part of the annual gala reception of the Logistics Hall of Fame on December 4 in Berlin. To date, 45 logisticians have been inducted into the Logistics Hall of Fame.
