Stefan Hohm, Chief Development Officer of Dachser SE, has been selected by the jury of the Logistics Hall of Fame as Logistics Leader of the Year. This is stated in a press release from the organization dating from the end of September. The award conferred by the Logistics Hall of Fame is said to honor Hohm as the driver of the innovation and digitization strategy of the Kempten-based logistics service provider.
According to the Logistics Hall of Fame, Hohm has stood at Dachser for 33 years for the combination of practicality and innovative strength. He has consistently placed research and development on the corporate agenda and made it a strategic pillar of the company's future. The jury of the Logistics Hall of Fame, comprising 70 personalities from business, science, politics and media from 13 nations, justifies its decision
with the words: "Stefan Hohm stands exemplarily for the modernization of the logistics industry and for a management mindset that regards change not as a threat, but as an opportunity."
Innovation and Technology
The jury was particularly convinced by the practical yet forward-looking implementation of innovative projects under his leadership – from mapping a piece-goods warehouse in the digital twin to real-time tracking of swap bodies to the commitment to open standards beyond company borders. With his work, Hohm, together with his team, set benchmarks and at the same time decisively strengthened Dachser's competitiveness in the global competition," summarizes Anita Würmser, managing jury chair of the Logistics Hall of Fame. All projects share the common feature, it continues, that they go beyond the introduction of new technologies: they stand for the practical implementation of a long-term and sustainable
innovation strategy that makes processes more efficient, increases customer value and secures the company's competitiveness.
The jury attaches central importance, among other things, to the firm anchoring of innovation processes in the board and in the mindset of the family-owned company. This structural backing provides the foundation for innovations to be anchored sustainably in the company and multiplied within the network. Under Hohm's leadership, Dachser has in recent years launched a multitude of projects that shape the company's digital transformation.
Swap Bodies and Wireless Technology
These include the digital twin "@ILO", a system developed jointly with Fraunhofer IML that for the first time digitally maps a complete piece-goods warehouse in real time and was awarded the German Logistics Prize in 2023. With "DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery" he has initiated emissions-free city logistics, which has been expanded from Stuttgart to
Munich, Paris and Copenhagen and is now being implemented in additional metropolises. The outfitting of swap bodies and trailers with IoT devices, which can be located in real time via 5G/LPWAN wireless technology, also goes back to his initiative—a project that makes disposition more efficient and provides customers with high value through reliable arrival-time calculations. Currently, the development of AI, machine learning and big data solutions is in focus, which have the potential to redefine the efficiency of the entire industry. The Logistics Leader of the Year Award honors pace-setters and future-makers in logistics. Those honored are individuals who are currently particularly successful for their company or have set a landmark impulse. The focus is on timeliness, innovation, sustainability, and corporate transformation.
