Amazon is opening new avenues for social organizations to receive product donations from Amazon through its "Amazon Product Donations" program. What began in 2022 as a pilot project with selected partners is now being significantly expanded and opened to more organizations. As per a company press release from mid-July, by the end of the year, an additional 100 non-profit organizations from Germany will be able to become part of Amazon Product Donations. This would allow selected facilities to choose precisely the products they need - they only pay for shipping and receive the items themselves for free.

"Product donations often mean considerable effort for non-profit organizations - they have to invest time, organize transport, and provide storage capacity. Smaller facilities in particular face these challenges," explains Rocco Bräuniger, Country Manager of Amazon Germany. "With our Amazon Product Donations program, we help solve these problems by combining Amazon's logistical expertise with our

customer-oriented approach. We are creating a donation system that works for organizations of all sizes."

Successes in Practice

Amazon Product Donations began in 2022 as a pilot project to support organizations assisting refugees from Ukraine. Since then, according to Amazon, 40 other non-profit organizations have gained access to the offering. Over the past three years, they have received over one million donated products worth more than five million euros from Amazon. Die Arche, one of the first partners, has ordered 350,000 articles for its work with children and adolescents so far.

"Amazon Product Donations has fundamentally changed the way we organize product donations. Over the past three years, this has been an incredibly valuable help, for which we are very grateful," says Bernd Siggelkow, founder and leader of Die Arche. "Within the program, we can choose exactly what we urgently need for our work with children and families from Amazon's product

donation offerings, such as toys, hygiene items, or school supplies, and significantly reduce our usual logistical effort."

Innovations for Non-profit Organizations

With five central innovations, Amazon Product Donations addresses the typical challenges of product donations according to its own information: Needs-based selection allows organizations to order exactly what they need. Optimized logistics utilize Amazon's delivery infrastructure. Continuous quality assurance ensures that all products meet Amazon's standards. The familiar e-commerce interface ensures efficiency in the ordering process. Reusing inventories allows products to be kept in circulation.

Diverse Product Offering

The program offers access to around 7,000 different product types from which organizations can choose what they need. The offering ranges from toys and clothing to books and school supplies. To best support the organizations, Amazon Product Donations includes only new or, if they are returns, like-new products in their original packaging.

Access for More Organizations

After the successful pilot project, Amazon is

inviting 100 more non-profit organizations to participate in the program by the end of the year. By the end of 2026, the number is expected to rise to 200 organizations. Besides Die Arche, organizations like the Münchner Tafel and Children for a Better World order through Amazon Product Donations.
