What robots can achieve to further automate processes in logistics centers was the focus of an online event by LOGISTIK HEUTE on the CONFERENCE DAYS 2025 on May 12. Moderated by LOGISTIK HEUTE editor Gunnar Knüpffer, user companies explained how they found the right robotic solution, what challenges they faced during integration, and what advantages they observed in their daily business.
Daniel Mühl, COO of Apo.com Group, connected robots with an “AutoStore” system at the logistics center in Duiven, Netherlands, together with his team. The goal was to deliver medications to customers faster
and more securely. Mühl described how robots accelerate automation in intralogistics. He emphasized the importance of technology – including artificial intelligence – in optimizing logistics and pharmaceutical processes. The COO pointed out that the mail-order pharmacy has implemented highly automated systems that significantly reduce errors and increase order processing efficiency.
"We are not in a situation where we want to fully automate everything, nor do we want to," said Mühl. There are products like hydrogen peroxide bottles or heavy items that should not be handed over to robots.
Goods-to-Person Solution for Hawesko
The
second presentation focused on robot-supported shipping processes at the wine merchant Hawesko at the expanded logistics center in Tornesch near Hamburg. Frederick Paulsen, logistics IT specialist at IWL Internationale Wein Logistik GmbH, and Ralf Gasper, senior sales manager at Infios (formerly Körber Supply Chain Software), provided insights into the introduction of a goods-to-person solution with autonomous mobile robots at Hawesko. The experts demonstrated how they overcame challenges related to C-items and implemented a robot solution optimized for handling wine bottles.
Both speakers provided insights into the tasks that had to be managed during
implementation, such as ensuring an appropriate robot design and closely collaborating with employees to achieve a smooth transition to automated systems.
The forum "How Robots Accelerate Automation in Intralogistics" organized by LOGISTIK HEUTE took place as part of the CONFERENCE DAYS 2025. CONFERENCE DAYS 2025 is a digital B2B event from May 12 to 15 for the logistics & intralogistics, truck & bus, and automotive & taxi industries. The focus is on imparting knowledge on current topics and networking. All sessions of the CONFERENCE DAYS are also available as recordings after a free
