The Schmitt Group is expanding its capacity with a new logistics hall in the inter-municipal commercial park West in Schwäbisch Hall. With an investment sum of 20 million euros, it is the largest individual construction project to date for the logistics service provider from Vellberg. The official groundbreaking ceremony took place at the end of July, and construction work has been underway for several weeks, according to a press release from August 6, 2025.
Modern Warehouse Space on 18,500 Square Meters
The general contractor Goldbeck is overseeing the construction of the new hall, which will encompass an area of 18,500 square meters. Planned are covered loading ramps and an adjoining office
wing. The hall meets the requirements for use as a hazardous materials warehouse and offers both block storage and rack storage areas for flexible storage.
Managing Director Günter Schmitt states that the location in Schwäbisch Hall is particularly well-suited to the existing sites and is excellently connected to the highway. The new hall complements the group's existing network, which currently includes over 270,000 square meters of logistics space in Vellberg, Gaildorf, Sulzdorf, Crailsheim, Eckartshausen, and Bühlertal and is almost fully utilized. Due to high demand, the company has decided to expand to be able to quickly provide additional storage space for customers.
Part of the Growth Strategy
Julia Schmitt, from the
management, describes the new building as an important step for regional growth and the group's future development. Although the hall was started without a direct customer order, a major project has since been won. Completion is scheduled for spring 2026.
First Mayor Peter Klink welcomes the settlement of the Schmitt Group in the industrial area and sees it as support for the growth of local companies. Goldbeck branch manager Stefan Forkefeld highlights the swift implementation and collaboration. For the hall construction, 151 supports and 480 tons of steel are being used.
Structure and Offering of the Schmitt Group
The group consists of Schmitt Logistik GmbH, which contributes 70 percent of the
revenue, and Schmitt Internationale Spedition GmbH & Co. KG, which contributes 30 percent. In total, approximately 450 employees are employed.
The service offering includes classical warehousing, shipping, distribution, as well as value-added services such as assembly, labeling, packaging management, and hazardous materials management. Additionally, the company offers individual consulting and in-house solutions. With the new building in Schwäbisch Hall, the Schmitt Group aims to create the conditions to be able to respond flexibly to customer requirements in the future and to strengthen its position as a logistics partner in the region. (sv)
