UPS has introduced a new option for sustainable logistics with its new service, "UPS SmartEnergy Solutions." This service reduces the CO₂ emissions of UPS shipments, reported the logistics service provider on June 3.

UPS SmartEnergy Solutions reduces emissions directly at the source: UPS invests in alternative fuels, electric vehicles, and energy-efficient facilities to decrease the CO₂ footprint of its customers. According to UPS, this approach fundamentally differs from conventional CO₂ offsetting, which

relies on external climate projects for the decarbonization of supply chains.

A key advantage of UPS SmartEnergy Solutions is the optimized reporting. UPS calculates emissions monthly for its customers, allowing them to view their emission data by transport mode, service level, business segment, and package. This, according to the logistics service provider, saves time and provides companies with a transparent and comprehensive report on the CO₂ footprint. The reporting on UPS emissions

data is reviewed annually by an independent third party, it was further stated.

UPS SmartEnergy Solutions is currently available for business customers for shipments within Germany as well as for imports and exports to and from Germany.

"Our customers are looking for efficient and transparent ways to reduce emissions – and that's exactly where UPS SmartEnergy Solutions comes in," said Burak Kilic, Managing Director of UPS Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. "By investing

in our own network, we help companies measurably reduce their Scope-3 emissions, rather than just offsetting them. This is a decisive step towards the decarbonization of global supply chains."

UPS also informed about the sustainable shipping solution UPS SmartEnergy Solutions at the logistics trade fair transport logistic 2025, which takes place from June 2 to 5 in Munich. There, UPS is represented at the joint stand of Cologne Bonn Airport (Hall A1,
