On May 22, Mercedes-Benz AG, Seifert Logistics Group, and the project developer Panattoni inaugurated the International Consolidation Center (ICC) in Bischweier in the Rastatt district in the presence of numerous visitors and distinguished guests from politics and business. The new logistics center will serve Mercedes-Benz AG as a central consolidation point for supplying the international production network and has been established on part of the 250,000-square-meter revitalized site of a former chipboard factory, communicated Panattoni.
The ICC is expected to make an important contribution to the supply chain of Mercedes-Benz AG both regionally and internationally in the future. On a usable area of approximately 130,000 square
meters, components are bundled, pre-assembled, and prepared for production supply. The logistics center will employ around 500 people in the future. According to Panattoni, the ICC has good transport connections, and a consistently sustainable logistics strategy is being pursued. Panattoni and Mercedes-Benz are having the ICC certified according to the criteria of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and are aiming for the DGNB Platinum Certificate.
“The opening of the International Consolidation Center in Bischweier is a crucial step towards even more efficient supply of our global production network,” said Elke Pusskeiler, Vice President Supply Chain Management of Mercedes-Benz AG. “By consolidating the material flow, we
reduce regional and supraregional traffic and strengthen the robustness of our supply chain.”
At the same time, the ICC meets the highest environmental standards and contributes to their sustainable business strategy. She is very pleased that they can celebrate this milestone just a year after the groundbreaking ceremony.
“An 80,000-square-meter rooftop photovoltaic system, the use of heat pumps for energy supply, the reuse of 250,000 tons of demolition material in the new construction, as well as electrification of the loading tunnel to charge e-trucks, make the ICC a showcase project for sustainable development,” explained Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner of Panattoni Germany and Austria.
For the operation
of the new consolidation center, Mercedes-Benz relies on collaboration with the Seifert Logistics Group, which will be responsible for logistics services at the site in the future.
“With the handover of the ICC, a new chapter begins for us in our long-standing partnership with Mercedes-Benz,” said Axel Frey, CEO of Seifert Logistics. “As a logistics service provider, we help ensure that the supply of the international production network functions smoothly.”
The local focus and at the same time global relevance were also of essential importance for the community. In a multi-month citizen participation process, the realization of the ICC was approved by 76.2 percent of the
