The Board of Directors of the Wascosa Group announced on May 5 the appointment of Markus Vaerst as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He assumed the leadership of the Swiss freight car leasing company effective April 30, 2025.
The 62-year-old succeeds Iris Hilb, who has been at the helm of the company since January 2023 and is leaving for
personal reasons. Vaerst has over 35 years of experience in rail logistics and the freight car industry. The manager joined Wascosa in 2019, initially strengthening the management team as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Since the end of 2022, he has been responsible for digital transformation as Chief Digital & Quality Officer at the Lucerne-based company.
The leadership change thus represents
continuity on the one hand, and on the other hand underscores the strategic importance of digitalization, innovation, and sustainability for the company.
“We are very pleased to have won Markus Vaerst as CEO, a recognized industry expert. His appointment ensures that we will continue to pursue our customer-oriented strategy with determination and further strengthen our innovative power and service quality
to the benefit of our customers across Europe,” said Philipp Müller, President of Wascosa Group Holding S.à r.l.
Vaerst adds:
“Being appointed as CEO of Wascosa is both an honor and an incentive for me. I thank you for the trust and look forward to continuing the success story of Wascosa together with our dedicated employees and our esteemed customers
