Rossmann, together with the technology company Graphmasters from Hanover, relies on AI-based route planning. The new "NUNAV" system, which replaces the previous route planning software, makes the truck routes even more efficient and flexible thanks to intelligent forecasts and collaborative routing, Rossmann recently announced.
The core of the system, according to the drugstore chain, is an AI module that creates precise forecasts for the future based on
millions of collected traffic data. In addition, the system uses the concept of collaborative routing to distribute traffic more efficiently and avoid congestion. According to Rossmann, alternative routes are identified to prevent traffic overloads.
"Thanks to artificial intelligence, the system can accurately predict future order volumes based on historical data - a major advantage, as the final volume for the sales outlets to be supplied is often
only determined at short notice. At the same time, drivers' vacation and working hours are automatically integrated into the planning, enabling flexible and forward-looking deployment planning," said Rossmann.
Rossmann has already equipped almost all regional warehouse locations with the new NUNAV system. According to the retail company, the introduction was successful, as route planning was developed in close coordination with the operational teams on site. During the
previous 1.5-year development and implementation phase, Rossmann stated, Graphmasters proved to be an extremely agile and reliable partner.
"What convinced us significantly, besides Graphmasters' agile and responsive working methods, is that they use a different approach to calculating traffic, which leads to more accurate forecasts and more precise planning of the trucks and our drivers - these are entirely new dimensions of logistics," said Henrik van Duuren,
