Mitel, a provider of business communications, is relocating the production of its IP phones to Germany. The company has signed an agreement with Gigaset, a manufacturer of communications technology with long-standing manufacturing expertise, to produce around one million end devices per year at the Bocholt plant. This is according to a Mitel press release.
Manufacturing in Germany is intended to strengthen Mitel's supply chain—especially in light of geopolitical uncertainties and complex logistics worldwide. At the same time, European customers would benefit from considerably shorter delivery times.
“Global supply chains are increasingly under pressure. We are consciously taking proactive steps
to safeguard quality and reliability for our customers. With German engineering, we will improve product quality and create predictability for the operation of critical communications infrastructures,” says Martin Bitzinger, Senior Vice President Product Management at Mitel.
Mitel develops the hardware and owns the software that controls it, while Gigaset is responsible for manufacturing. This model ensures seamless integration into Mitel's entire portfolio, aligns with the company's hybrid communications strategy, and aims to pave the way for future AI-powered integrated functions.
With the Bocholt production site, Mitel solidifies its global leadership in the field of communications devices. The highly automated,
environmentally conscious and Trade Agreement Act (TAA)-compliant manufacturing processes of Gigaset provide additional protection and confidence for customers operating in regulated industries and regions.

Despite the growing importance of mobile
and software-based solutions, desk and cordless telephones remain essential for many companies and industries. According to the consulting firm Frost & Sullivan, the global market volume is around two billion US dollars—driven by ease of use, speed, and their role in emergency scenarios as well as in the operational frontline sector.
