The Edeka Minden-Hannover has inaugurated a new gas station for the fuel "REEFUEL" Bio-LNG at the Edeka logistics site in Mittenwalde, Brandenburg. With this opening, they are enabling their trucks to refuel with the CO2-free fuel alternative and are significantly advancing the transition towards sustainable transport solutions, the trading company announced on June 25.

"With our new gas station in Mittenwalde, we are making another big step towards low-emission delivery traffic," said Mark Rosenkranz, spokesperson for the board of Edeka Minden-Hannover. "Our entire

fleet will be converted to Bio-LNG by early 2026 to significantly reduce the CO2 footprint while simultaneously improving air quality in urban areas. In doing so, we acknowledge our responsibility for climate protection and the quality of life of people in our business area."

Currently, around 500 LNG trucks of the model "IVECO S-WAY LNG" are in operation for Edeka Minden-Hannover, powered by Bio-LNG. By early 2026, according to the trading company, the entire fleet will be expanded to about 650 vehicles, exclusively

operated with the renewable fuel.

The new gas station in Mittenwalde complements the existing infrastructure of Bio-LNG stations at the Edeka logistics sites in Lauenau (Lower Saxony), Wiefelstede (Lower Saxony), Osterweddingen (Saxony-Anhalt), and Landsberg (Saxony-Anhalt). When the sixth Bio-LNG station in Freienbrink goes into operation in the fall of 2025, according to the information provided, all logistics sites of Edeka Minden-Hannover will be accordingly equipped. By switching to Bio-LNG, Edeka Minden-Hannover can save up to 45,000 tons of CO2 annually. In 2024, the

amount of CO2 saved was already 22,500 tons.

Long-term supply contract as a foundation

The basis for the supply of REEFUEL Bio-LNG is a long-term supply contract between Edeka Minden-Hannover and the medium-sized company Alternoil from Steinfeld (Vechta district). The company has been delivering the required fuel quantities since May 2023 and is simultaneously developing the gas station infrastructure at the logistics sites of Edeka Minden-Hannover step by step, so that in the future the entire truck fleet can be operated with Bio-LNG.
