On August 9, 1965, the first Ford Transit rolled off the assembly line at the Ford commercial vehicle plant in Langley. By August 2025, more than 13 million units of this van model were manufactured worldwide. According to the company, production in Europe and Turkey has totaled 10.1 million vehicles since its market launch.
Strong Market Position in Europe
According to data from S&P Global, in 2024, nearly every fifth van sold in Europe in the payload segments of one or two tons was a Ford Transit or Transit Custom. In the same year, a
customer in Europe opted for a model from the Transit series every two minutes on average.
Wide Model Range and Increased Capacity
According to the manufacturer, the current offering includes more than 1,300 variants of the two-ton Transit. These include different body shapes, lengths, heights, drives, and equipment levels. Color options are not taken into account in this number. While the Transit Mk 1 from 1965 offered a payload of around 1,700 kilograms, current van models can transport over 2,400 kilograms. The largest variant, the Transit L4 H3, features a loading volume of 15.1 cubic
meters.
Technical Advancements
The model portfolio also includes special versions. The all-electric Ford Supervan 4.2 achieves a power output of 2,000 hp. The E-Transit with an enlarged battery offers a range of up to 402 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. This represents an increase of 28 percent compared to the standard version.
Sales and Production Increase
Between 2014 and 2024, sales of the Transit and Transit Custom models increased by 52 percent. According to S&P Global, the plants in Europe and Turkey produced four times as many vehicles in 2024 as in the first
full production year in 1966.
Connectivity and Special Conversions
Connection to the Fordliive Uptime Management System enabled 822,000 additional operating days in Europe in 2024. Additionally, 217 Ford Pro Partners across 18 European markets are working on specific conversions and equipment for various application areas.
