With the new terminal, the logistics company is expanding its existing network by adding another hub. The complete development of the site is expected to be completed in 2026. Axel Krichel, a member of the board of directors and COO of the BLG Group:
“A new location is being established in Ahlhorn with space for around 16,000 vehicles – including technical services. This is not just more space – it is a commitment to the future of the automotive segment. We are seeing a growing demand from
car manufacturers for integrated logistics, technical services, and a proven distribution network – areas in which we are already well-positioned. In Ahlhorn, we are purposefully expanding our strengths further.”
The new inland terminal in Ahlhorn in the Metropolpark Hansalinie covers an area of around 35 hectares and has been leased long-term. At the start of operations, 2,500 parking spaces are available on the site of the former air base. Medium-term plans include an expansion to up to 16,000 parking spaces, according to the logistics company. A planning
phase for a technical center has also begun, which is expected to provide additional service impulses and technologically strengthen the location.
Green LogisticsIn addition, the use of green electricity, a photovoltaic system on the hall roof, and modern heat pump technology are planned, it was said further. Already, low-emission transport solutions can be offered via rail. An expansion of the rail infrastructure is also planned. Thomas Menke, branch manager of the inland terminal Ahlhorn:
“We are pleased about the successful start of operations and the trust of
the first customer. The demand already shows the potential of this location. We still have a lot planned – not only in infrastructure expansion and team building, but also in the expansion of our service offerings for existing and new clients.”
Strategically Strong PositionedThe new terminal is conveniently located about three kilometers from the A1 and A29 motorways at the intersection of the European north-south axis. The proximity to the North German and Dutch seaports makes Ahlhorn a central logistics location for both national and international goods
