Last Wednesday, Axel Krichel, member of the board & Chief Operating Officer (COO) of BLG Logistics, together with the chairman of the Zweckverband Häfen in the Kelheim district, County Commissioner Martin Neumeyer, the managing director of the Zweckverband, the mayors of Kelheim and Saal, and project developer Solea, initiated the construction of a sustainable roofing for 10,000 parking spaces at the BLG AutoTerminal
in Kelheim.
Around 53,000 photovoltaic modules with a capacity of over 23 megawatts peak are being installed on the site of the so-called "Hopfenfeld". The project is being realized in collaboration with Solea, a specialist in large-scale PV systems. The location has been using PV power since 2019. Axel Krichel:
"Kelheim is far more than just a location for us: It is a
central hub in our network of sustainable logistics solutions - trimodally connected, highly automated, and customer-oriented. BLG Logistics is one of the largest employers in Kelheim. This investment sends a positive signal for the location."
The AutoTerminal Kelheim is considered a significant inland port in vehicle handling. On a total area of 550,000 square meters, around 300 employees handle vehicles delivered by ship,
rail, and truck from Hungary, Slovakia, the Adriatic ports, and southern Germany. The technical equipment on-site facilitates washing and repair processes as well as market-specific configurations. Site Manager Görgen Brockbalz:
"This flagship project bridges the gap between sustainability and economic efficiency. The solar ports not only generate green electricity but also create around 10,000 covered parking spaces that protect our customers' high-quality products
