Since the end of October, trucks of the Pfenning Group have been starting on climate-neutral trips from Nerdlen. Because the construction of a CNG refueling station for trucks in the Eifel and at the Pfenning Group site allows the logistics company to implement the switch from fossil diesel to climate-neutral bio-CNG, it is said.
At the same time as the opening of the OG refueling station, Iveco also delivered the first CNG-powered trucks to the logistics company. “We have decided on climate-neutral bio-CNG as the propulsion energy because it not only meets the economic and operational requirements but also results in an immediate reduction of CO2 emissions.”
Expansion to 60 CNG trucks planned
They also intend to gradually introduce sustainable solutions in warehousing and transportation activities. With the opening of OG Clean Fuels’ CNG refueling station there is thus the possibility to convert the truck fleet from fossil diesel to a climate-neutral propulsion powered by bio-CNG. Nag:
“Currently, 20 CNG trucks are in the pipeline; there are plans to expand this fleet to 60 vehicles.”
To further facilitate the use of the climate-neutral Bio-CNG fuel in road freight transport, the operator of the tank and charging infrastructure is expanding its German network of filling stations. Achim Wiedey, German sales director of OG Clean Fuels:
„With our nationwide network of around 160 CNG filling stations, we enable the use of Bio-CNG in heavy regional traffic as well as in national road freight transport. In coordination with anchor customers, we densify our public fueling network and optimize it for use by trucks.“
Pressure on logistics providers is rising
For the need exists and the demand for Bio-CNG from the
transport sector is expected to rise significantly. Achim Wiedey:
“Even if climate protection seems to be losing significance in the public debate at present, the pressure on transport companies to use climate-friendly truck drivetrains is increasing. Both customer expectations and costs make the economic use of trucks powered by fossil diesel more difficult.”
Many freight forwarders and municipalities would increasingly award contracts to transport companies that are already on the path to a climate-neutral truck fleet. Since electric trucks cannot be deployed in fleets in large numbers in the foreseeable future in a way that is economical and climate-neutral, proven CNG trucks
