In recent years, Liège has become a dedicated intercontinental freight hub in the FedEx air network. According to the company, this is part of a global strategy to redesign the air network.
Expansion of the Air Freight Market
The density and capacity utilization of the network should be improved.
As of April 28, 2025, the frequency on the route between Liège and Memphis has been increased from five to eight weekly flights.
A Boeing 777, which can transport up to 150,000 pounds of cargo per flight, is used for this purpose. The expansion of the role of the
Liège location in the global FedEx network is taking place against the backdrop of strategic alignment to continue growing in the global air freight market.
The flight connection between Liège and Memphis has existed since April 2017. In the meantime, the express transportation company has expanded the offer of
nonstop flights from Liège with new transatlantic routes to Indianapolis and Oakland.
This aims to strengthen the significance of the hub as a link between Europe and global markets, it is stated.
FedEx has been operating in Liège since 1998 - currently with 1,300 employees at the airport there.
