Ford Trucks Unveils New F-MAX Generation at Truck Grand Prix

Ford Trucks Germany presented the new generation of the F-MAX GEN 2.0 tractor unit at the 38th International ADAC Truck Grand Prix from July 11 to 13, 2025, at the Nürburgring. The event, with over 134,000 visitors, provided the company with the opportunity to showcase five vehicles of the new series – two of them at the 100-square-meter stand in the industrial park, and three more at the Trucker Camp in the Müllenbach Loop.

Redesigned and Aerodynamic Optimization

The presentation focused on visible innovations in the exterior design. The F-MAX GEN 2.0 is equipped, among other things, with an optional digital mirror system that improves visibility while reducing air resistance. The new aerodynamic package is complemented by technical elements such as an active grille shutter, new spoilers, wheel arch covers, door winglets, a "speed lip" on the hubcap, an A-pillar deflector, and additional

seals on the window extension, door, and bumper. The aim of these measures is to minimize open airflows and improve overall aerodynamics.

Enhanced Interior Comfort

The driver's workplace has also been further developed. According to the manufacturer, the noise level during driving is 15 to 30 percent lower depending on the comparison model – in practice, two to four decibels quieter than competitors. The cab has a volume of around 13 cubic meters and offers 790 liters of storage space. It is equipped with two bunks, with the upper bunk being fully foldable. In addition, there are large exterior storage compartments with through-loading capability.

“The conversations over the weekend really sparked interest when my colleagues from the F-Trucks team or I mentioned that the F-MAX GEN 2.0 now has more power but is also more efficient,” says Holger Hahn and affirms, “this is indeed true and is thanks to the extensive technical innovations

in the engine and drivetrain.”

Increased Efficiency Through New Drivetrain

The revised Ecotorq engine GEN2 produces 510 HP (375 kW) and generates a maximum torque of 2,600 Nm. Technically, the unit has been further developed with a weight-optimized design, improved combustion, a variable oil pump, and a highly efficient turbocharger. These measures are expected to enable a fuel consumption reduction of up to 11.3 percent with an assumed annual mileage of 120,000 kilometers – equivalent to around 4,000 liters of fuel per year. Additionally, the engine is suitable for operation with HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) without technical modifications.

Developed Drivetrain and Braking Performance

The new automated overdrive transmission, in combination with a retarder, can reduce consumption by an additional 0.33 liters per 100 kilometers according to the manufacturer. Four intelligent drive modes adapt driving behavior to the situation. The overdrive principle allows driving at lower engine speeds in higher gears.

The revised braking

system includes an engine brake with up to 400 kW of power and a five-stage retarder with 600 kW braking performance. Combined, this results in a wear-free braking force of 1,000 kW. New is also a brake pad return spring that reduces friction between the caliper and brake disc, reduces brake dust, and, according to the manufacturer, can prevent pad replacement over three years with appropriate driving style.

Lower Operating Costs and Extended Maintenance Intervals

Ford Trucks estimates the savings potential for service and operating costs at around ten percent. The basis for this is extended maintenance intervals of up to 120,000 kilometers, as well as new service and contract models that are intended to enable more planning security.

“With the new F-MAX GEN 2.0, Ford Trucks has truly put together an impressive 'savings package' – in the best sense. I think our visitors at the Truck Grand Prix really appreciated that,” concludes
