The freight collaboration IDS has announced the planned acquisition of Agotrans Logistik GmbH in Rodgau by the IDS shareholder Geis – thereby filling the last of the seven franchise areas left vacant due to the DSV-Schenker acquisition. In the future, Agotrans is to take over the eastern Rhine-Main depot area under Geis leadership.
Puzzle Completed
“With Agotrans starting in the Rhine-Main area, we are closing the last piece of our network restructuring puzzle – and that with a strong and reliable partner,” says IDS Managing Director Michael Bargl with
satisfaction.
According to Bargl, the freight network is supposed to be set up to be future-proof, stable, and seamless. Agotrans Logistik GmbH has been operating as an owner-managed freight company in the east of Frankfurt since 1972 and is currently a member of the collaboration Online Systemlogistik.
Expanded Geis Network
According to the information provided, the Geis Group will take over all shares in Agotrans through a share deal effective July 1, 2025 – subject to the approval of the antitrust authorities, it states. Agotrans Managing Director Dr. Thomas
Wernig will remain in the company until mid-2026.
“The Rhine-Main area has long been of strategic interest to us – now we can optimally integrate it into our road network,” explains Jochen Geis, Managing Partner of the Geis Group, adding, “At the same time, we are pleased to soon be responsible for 13 of the 54 IDS depot areas with Agotrans.”
After DSV announced the Schenker acquisition, IDS reassigned the affected depot areas. Starting in 2026, the new partner structure will be as follows:
- Osnabrück: Lohmüller Rheine, Hartmann Ibbenbüren
- Baunatal: Geis-Krüger Göttingen, Kühne + Nagel Hauneck
- Krefeld: Kleine Grevenbroich
- Saarland: Müller Saarlouis, Kühne + Nagel, Contern (LUX)
- Aschaffenburg (new): Agotrans Rodgau
- Stuttgart: Kühne + Nagel Ilsfeld and Gärtringen, Noerpel Stuttgart
- Lahr: Noerpel Teningen, Villingen-Schwenningen, and Ötigheim
According to Bargl, being close to the customers with regionally strong, medium-sized partners allows for flexible service. Currently, IDS Logistik GmbH is represented at 54 locations in Germany according to the provided information. Transports to other European countries are carried out with the national companies of the franchise holders and European partners.
