Lufthansa Cargo will start marketing the freight capacities on ITA Airways routes from June 2025. With the integration of Rome (FCO) as a cargo hub in Southern Europe, they aim to expand the network with additional routes, capacities, and destinations.

For flights from June 16th, the freight capacities from São Paulo (GRU), Rio de Janeiro (GIG), and Buenos Aires (EZE) to Rome will be marketed under the own AWB prefix, it is stated. On all other routes, both airlines will initially continue to operate with two separate AWB numbers. Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo:

“Together with our partner ITA

Airways, we are pleased to offer our customers even more attractive routes, additional capacities, and solutions to and from Europe as well as worldwide, to better meet their transportation needs. The expanded network underscores once more the 'Enabling Global Business' mission of Lufthansa Cargo. Besides Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, and Brussels, Rome will be our fifth hub, which will help us offer our customers flexible and high-quality solutions. Our customers will benefit from even more reliable and faster connections to and from Southern Europe and can access the well-known services of Lufthansa Cargo via Rome.”

Gradually and following regulatory approvals, the

airfreight company plans to take over the marketing of the additional capacities on all continental and intercontinental routes of the Italian airline under its own AWB prefix.

This would increase the global offering of additional capacities for Lufthansa Cargo customers by around 20 percent, according to the company. In the future, freight customers will have a denser global network available, including the marketed additional capacities within the Lufthansa Group. Jörg Eberhart, CEO of ITA Airways:

“We are looking forward to leveraging the synergies within the Lufthansa Group in the cargo sector. Through the large fleet of the Lufthansa Group and

the capacities of ITA Airways, our customers can benefit from an extended service and a larger network by connecting the destinations of the group and utilizing the great potential of our hub in Fiumicino.”

Since the beginning of 2025, ITA Airways has officially been part of the Lufthansa Group. The group initially acquired a 41 percent stake in the Italian airline, with plans to acquire further shares according to its own statements. The ITA Airways Airbus fleet currently includes 99 aircraft, including 22 long-haul aircraft of the types Airbus A350-900, Airbus A330-900neo, and A330-200. ITA Airways flies to nearly 70
