Schmitz Cargobull has successfully renewed the GDP certificate for its telematics system Trailerconnect. As the company announced, it continues to offer its pharmaceutical customers factory-certified vehicles that meet the requirements of the "Good Distribution Practice" (GDP). Certification is crucial for the temperature-controlled transport of medicines, as it provides customers with an important document for their GDP audits.
Marnix Lannoije, Board Member for Development at Schmitz Cargobull, explains:
"The certification of Trailerconnect allows our customers to present an important certificate for their GDP
audits in temperature-controlled transport, confirming the high quality and safety of our products."
He also emphasizes that the GDP certificate ensures process security throughout the entire supply chain. This includes data collection in the trailer, data storage, its presentation in the portal, and forwarding via an API that enables data sharing with third-party systems.
The "Good Distribution Practice of medicinal products for human use" (GDP) was introduced by the European Commission in 2013. It serves as quality assurance and protection against counterfeit
medicines. The directive requires manufacturers, pharmaceutical wholesalers, and pharmacists to undergo annual GDP audits of their processes. The requirements for GDP certification are reviewed every two years. Trailerconnect has now been certified again for another two years following a comprehensive audit by TÜV Süd.
A variety of areas were examined in the certification process. These included the interface description, data storage and backup, risk analysis of software development, regular software updates, organizational processes and structures within the company, as well as the
quality management manual and ISO 9001. This detailed examination ensures that Schmitz Cargobull meets all relevant requirements and continuously maintains the high standards in the field of pharmaceutical logistics.
With the renewed TÜV Süd certificate, Schmitz Cargobull can continue to provide its customers with telematics solutions that not only increase transport efficiency but also ensure the necessary safety and quality for the transport of pharmaceutical products.
