Tevex Logistics from Rheda-Wiedenbrück in East Westphalia has taken delivery of two new Schmitz Cargobull refrigerated vehicles. These include a fully electric S.KOe COOL semitrailer box and an S.KO COOL semitrailer box with the S.CU d80 ePTOready refrigeration unit, which can be operated emission-free via an interface to an electric PTO of an e-semitrailer tractor. The delivery is part of an order for a total of 166 refrigerated boxes.

The S.KO COOL semitrailer box is equipped with joint branding from Tevex Logistics and Schmitz Cargobull and is provided with the relevant information on the ePTO interface. Dirk Mutlak, Managing Director of Tevex Logistics:

“With these two energy supply innovations, we are complementing our state-of-the-art fleet and significantly advancing our path toward decarbonization. We rely on all currently available technologies and are happy to use the advanced

technology of our long-standing partner Schmitz Cargobull from the Münsterland. With Schmitz Cargobull refrigerated vehicles, we can achieve significant CO2 savings due to the excellent k-value.”

Electric PTO ePTOWith the electric PTO ePTO on the E-semitrailer tractor, it is possible to operate auxiliary consumers such as the transport refrigeration unit of a refrigerated semi-trailer purely electrically. The transport refrigeration unit itself can be both a purely electric and a diesel-operated cooling device.

The Schmitz Cargobull S.CU d80 ePTO ready can be operated fully electrically in use with an E-truck. The driving battery of the E-semitrailer tractor supplies the transport refrigeration unit with electrical energy via the ePTO. The S.CU d80 ePTO ready also features a diesel generator set, which provides the energy supply for cooling in case the electrical power supply fails.

The switch from ePTO

to diesel generator operation and vice versa is carried out automatically by the control of the S.CU cooling machine from Schmitz Cargobull. Thus, the constant availability of the S.CU with two different energy sources in driving operation is ensured according to their own information.

S.KOe COOL Semitrailer Refrigerated VariantFor the emission-free transport of temperature-controlled cargo, Schmitz Cargobull has launched a fully electric S.KOe COOL semitrailer refrigerated variant with an electric refrigeration machine with integrated power electronics, high-voltage battery system, and electrical generator axle. The type-approved Schmitz Cargobull generator axle recuperates energy from a certain speed and during braking maneuvers, thereby extending the operating time of the refrigeration machine or reducing battery recharging times via the power grid. With a battery capacity of 32kWh, depending on application and requirement, an autonomous electric operation without recharging via the

generator axle or the power grid can be guaranteed for 4.5 to 18 hours. Recharging via the power grid is carried out via the CEE three-phase connection built into the refrigeration machine and takes about two hours. Andreas Schmitz, Chairman of the Board of Schmitz Cargobull AG:

“We have a successful partnership with Tevex Logistics for many years. With the semitrailer boxes delivered today, we set new standards for economical and sustainable temperature-controlled transport. Our new S.CU d80 cooling unit with ePTO interface stands for maximum flexibility. It enables 100% electric operation and, thanks to additional diesel operation, ensures absolute supply security even when there is no power supply. By dispensing with a high-voltage battery and an e-axle, we can also keep investment costs low for transport companies – an important step for sustainable, future-proof refrigerated
