The transport and logistics service provider Schuon is optimizing its sustainability strategy with the semi-automatic re-profiling system Bear-Cut. The new machine from Bear-Machines is being used in the company's own workshop, replacing the previously manual re-cutting of tires.

Extended tire usage, reduced CO2 emissions

According to the shipping company, re-cutting with the Bear-Cut extends the life of bus, truck, and trailer tires by up to 25 percent. This means that every fourth newly produced tire can be saved, according to the announcement. This reduces the consumption of raw materials and avoids CO2 emissions that would occur during new production.

In connection with retreading, re-profiling is part of a four-life concept consisting of new tires, re-cutting,

retreading, and re-cutting again. Trucks with re-cut tires also consume less fuel because they have a particularly favorable rolling resistance.

Investment decision after live demonstration

Managing Director Alexander Schuon explained that the decision to invest was made after a live demonstration at the partner trade fair of the load network Elvis, in which the company is a member.

"We have been re-cutting the tires of our vehicles for a long time, but in the past by hand. This was a strenuous task for our service employees, which also took a lot of time and was accordingly unpopular," said Schuon.

The demonstration convinced him.

"With it, we can relieve our employees, noticeably save costs, and at

the same time optimize the sustainability of our fleet. Furthermore, the quality of the mechanical re-cutting is extremely high," continued the company boss. "The Bear-Cut thus fits perfectly with our sustainability strategy."

145 tires processed in a few weeks

Since the start of operations of the Bear-Cut, the workshop team has re-cut 145 tires, according to Schuon's statements. The shipping company operates a fleet of 250 own vehicles. Given the high number of re-cuttable tires, the managing director expects a return on investment within three years.

System relieves workshop personnel

The workshop employees report a significant relief at work. The Bear-Cut saves a lot of time and effort. While they used to feel exhausted after

re-cutting, they now have energy for other tasks. Schuon added:

"There have been no failures so far, Bear-Machines reliably delivers functional updates, and the instruction was very good."

He described the operation of the system as self-explanatory. He summarized the service with the words:

"The service from Bear-Machines is, in short, fast, flexible, and good."

He recommends the Bear-Cut to his colleagues in the industry without any reservations.
