Goodyear wants to further push the performance limits of race trucks and advance tire technology according to its own statements. On the weekend of June 24th to 25th, the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship will make a stop at the Lausitzring.

A new truck racing tire will be presented, which is supposed to consist of 55 percent sustainable materials. The ingredients include, for example, silica from rice husk ash and carbon black from alternative raw materials.

Findings for Tire Development

The tire will be used from this year's racing season of the Goodyear FIA

European Truck Racing Championship. The FIA-ETRC racing series serves, according to the manufacturer, as a platform to test next-generation tire solutions. The insights gained are then incorporated into the further development of commercial vehicle tires, it is said.

"By increasing the proportion of sustainable materials in our racing tires, we not only support the sustainability goals of this racing series, but also pave the way for further innovations that the entire transport industry can benefit from," said Maciej Szymański, Marketing Director, Commercial EMEA, Goodyear.

According to Georg Fuchs, Managing Director of ETRA, the introduction of

the next generation of racing tires is another step on the path to sustainable transformation of this truck racing series.

"This partnership demonstrates that sustainability and performance can go hand in hand. Through it, we are paving the way for a more responsible future in motorsport and road transport," explains Fuchs.

From the Racetrack to the Road

According to reports, the Goodyear FIA ETRC racing series has been using 100% HVO biofuel since 2021. The tire manufacturer has also introduced retreading into the lifecycle of truck racing tires.

The tires are reconditioned for use in

road transport after racing deployment – to minimize tire waste and use resources efficiently, it is stated. The latest Goodyear truck racing tire introduced last season is said to feature its innovative tire compound and was specifically developed for more grip, especially in wet conditions.

According to the rules of the Goodyear FIA ETRC, only a single tire may be used on different racetracks and under various weather conditions — on dry and wet roads and on cold as well as hot surface conditions. The new design also increases durability, so fewer tires are needed
