A Bosnian truck driver allegedly wanted to do something good for his employer – and thereby drew several authorities to the scene. At a traffic check on September 24, 2025 in St. Florian am Inn, district of Schärding, the police found that the 45-year-old had been on the road for nearly 37 hours without complying with the prescribed rest times. According to the Upper Austrian State Police Directorate, the violations amounted to one of the gravest cases in recent months.

Inspection in St. Florian

The officers stopped the tractor-trailer

near St. Florian am Inn. As reported by ORF Oberösterreich, they checked the vehicle, the tachograph and driving times. They found that the driver had shortened his daily rest period to less than four hours on occasions. He had not taken several mandated breaks. According to the police, the man drove at times without a driver's card.

Massive technical defects

In addition to violations of driving and rest times, the inspectors detected significant technical defects. The front brake discs were heavily worn, police said. Furthermore, corroded screws on the

wheel hubs were observed. The vehicle had nevertheless been used in international long-haul traffic. The inspectors also noted that the driver was driving on a road closed to trucks.

Curious justification

Upon inquiry, the 45-year-old explained that he had “wanted to help the company save costs.” This was reported by several media outlets, including Kronen Zeitung and the industry portal Trans.INFO. The police did not disclose the employer. According to current findings, it is believed to be an internationally operating transport company.

Consequences of the inspection

The officers pulled

the truck out of traffic right there on the spot. As ORF further reports, the police filed a complaint with the Schärding district authority and with the Public Prosecutor's Office in Ried im Innkreis. In addition, a security deposit was collected. The police did not disclose the amount. There is currently no further information about a possible court case or any penalty already imposed.

Significance for the industry
