With the increased freight handling, Vienna Airport increased by eight percent compared to the same period last year. In April, a total of 26,999 tons were handled, achieving a 13 percent increase compared to April 2024.
Overall, the increases in belly cargo on passenger planes were able to offset
the slightly declining numbers in the volumes handled in pure cargo planes, according to the company. Thus, the airport recorded 31,477 tons of belly cargo in the first quarter, representing an increase of 16 percent. In April, the airport saw a total of 11,421 tons, a rise of 17
percent.
The tonnage handled in the Pharma Handling Center in the first quarter also increased by three percent to a total of 913 tons. Vienna Airport offers a specialized Pharma Handling Center to ensure proper transportation with an unbroken cold chain.
When comparing imported and exported air freight in
the first quarter, differences were apparent. A total of 37,946 tons were imported into Austria via Vienna Airport, representing an increase of one percent. In addition, 35,334 tons of freight were transported from Vienna to worldwide markets, which is 16 percent more than in the first quarter of 2024.
