Vienna Airport continues to gain importance for the exchange of goods between East Asia and Central Europe. The newly established Korean cargo airline Airzeta is starting its operations and using Vienna as a European hub. For the location, this means additional capacity and closer connections to the Asian economic area.
New airline bets on Vienna as a hub
As Vienna Airport reports, Airzeta has signed a comprehensive framework agreement and long-term contracts for cargo handling. Up to six rotations per week
The airline has already completed the first flights on the new connection. Airzeta uses Boeing-747 cargo aircraft for this and plans up to six round trips per week. Seoul-Incheon is according to the press release the most important air cargo hub in Korea.
According to Vienna Airport, Airzeta primarily transports industrial goods such as automotive parts, battery materials and electronic components. Pharmaceuticals and shipments from e-commerce also account for the cargo volume. The connection is intended to stabilize
supply chains between East Asia and Central Europe and to enable companies in both regions a reliable flow of goods.
Strategic significance for the Vienna site
The partnership with Airzeta would strengthen Vienna's cargo hub, according to Vienna Airport. Additional capacity increases the attractiveness for shippers and logistics companies that rely on tight schedules and short handling times. The site boasts a capable infrastructure and a geographic location that enables fast onward connections to the European market.
From the Korean perspective, too, the choice of location has strategic reasons. Airzeta chief Kwan Sik Kim cites the infrastructure, the handling quality, and the location as the decisive factors.

Airzeta is, according to the information, an independent airline that offers worldwide air freight services from Korea. The company emerged from the merger of Asiana Cargo and Korean Air and the subsequent spin-off of Air Incheon. While Asiana Cargo had been flying to Vienna regularly for years, with Airzeta, for the first time the infrastructure of Air Incheon is represented in Vienna.
Importance for the transport sector
For freight transport companies in Europe, the new connection creates an additional option. The up to six weekly flights increase capacity on the Vienna–Seoul-Incheon route. Vienna Airport regards Airzeta's entry as a strategic expansion of intercontinental connections and as a strengthening of the cargo hub.
