Herbert Schümann Papierverarbeitungswerk GmbH will once again present its range of water-activated tapes at FACHPACK 2025 in Nuremberg from September 23 to 25, but this year the focus is on the fiber-reinforced "UNIKRAFT" tapes. These are considered particularly robust solutions for tamper-proof and theft-proof sealing of heavy cartons and are used in many international supply chains. At the booth in Hall 3A, Stand 3A-110, visitors can gain insights into the technology, processing, and numerous customization options of the products.
"UNIKRAFT" Tapes with Two Layers of Kraft Paper and Fiber Glass Scrim
The “UNIKRAFT” tapes consist of two layers of kraft paper, between which a fiber glass scrim is embedded. This sandwich construction combines the tear resistance of the fibers with the
stability of the paper, ensuring that the carton is both sealed and shielded. This increases static load-bearing capacity, which is particularly advantageous when transporting heavy goods or stacking pallets. When applied in a T or H format, the tape also protects the carton edges from damage – an advantage for packaging exposed to mechanical stress.
Water-Activated Adhesive Permanently Bonds with the Carton
In the specialized industry, these reinforced water-activated tapes are also referred to as "Reinforced Tapes," "Crosswise Reinforced Tapes," or "Diamond Pattern Tapes" – the latter due to the diamond-shaped pattern of the fiber glass scrim. Their high security standard is based on the inseparable material bond that forms upon application: the water-activated adhesive immediately and permanently bonds with the
surface of the carton. Opening is only destructively possible and thus instantly recognizable, which significantly hinders tampering and theft.
“UNIKRAFT” Tapes for Automated and Manual Use
The "UNIKRAFT" tapes can be used both in highly automated packaging lines and manually with handy dispensers. Schümann also demonstrates at the trade fair the possibilities for optically and functionally enhancing the closure tapes through printing. Print designs can include barcodes, product information, safety instructions, transport tips, company logos, advertising messages, or assembly instructions. In many cases, this replaces printing on the carton itself or attaching separate labels, simplifying the packaging process and reducing costs.
The company's print service is available starting from an order of 150 rolls, each with a running length of 200
meters, allowing small and medium shipping volumes to benefit as well. Especially online retailers and e-commerce providers use this option to customize their packaging while optimizing logistics processes. The tapes are manufactured according to DIN 55475 standards, are available in various running lengths – some over 1,000 meters – and can be delivered printed in one or multiple colors.
Another focus is on sustainability and certification. The "UNIKRAFT" tapes carry the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) seals and are designed for a dust-tight, tear-resistant, tamper-proof, and environmentally friendly closure of virtually all types of cartons.
