Ford Trucks Unveils New F-MAX Generation at Truck Grand Prix

Ford Trucks Germany presented the new generation of the F-MAX GEN 2.0 tractor unit at the 38th International ADAC Truck Grand Prix from July 11 to 13, 2025, at the Nürburgring. The event, which drew over 134,000 visitors, provided the company the opportunity to showcase five vehicles from the new series – two at the 100 square meter stand in the industrial park and three more at the Trucker Camp of the Müllenbach loop.

Redesigned Look and Aerodynamic Optimization

The presentation focused on visible innovations in the exterior design. Among other features, the F-MAX GEN 2.0 is equipped with an optional digital mirror system that improves visibility while reducing air resistance. The new aerodynamics package is complemented by technical elements such as an active grille shutter, new spoilers, wheel arch covers, door winglets, a "speed lip" on the wheel cap,

an A-pillar deflector, and additional seals at the window extension, door, and bumper. The goal of these measures is to minimize open airflows and improve overall aerodynamics.

Interior Comfort Enhancements

The driver’s workspace has also been further developed. According to the manufacturer, the noise level during driving is 15 to 30 percent lower compared to similar models—in practice, two to four decibels quieter than competitors. The cabin features a volume of around 13 cubic meters and offers 790 liters of storage space. It is equipped with two berths, with the upper bunk being fully foldable. Additional large external storage compartments with through-loading capability are also provided.

"However, many ears perked up during weekend discussions when my colleagues from the F-Trucks team or I mentioned that the F-MAX GEN 2.0 now has more power but is still more efficient," says Holger Hahn, adding, "this is indeed true, thanks to comprehensive technical

innovations in the engine and drivetrain."

Efficiency Boost Through New Drivetrain

The revised Ecotorq engine GEN2 delivers 510 hp (375 kW) and generates a maximum torque of 2,600 Nm. The unit has been technically further developed with a weight-optimized design, improved combustion, a variable oil pump, and a highly efficient turbocharger. These measures aim to enable a fuel reduction of up to 11.3 percent, assuming an annual mileage of 120,000 kilometers—equivalent to approximately 4,000 liters of fuel per year. Additionally, the engine is suitable for operation with HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) without technical adjustments.

Further Developed Drivetrain Technology and Brake Performance

The new automated overdrive transmission, combined with a retarder, can reduce consumption by another 0.33 liters per 100 kilometers, according to the manufacturer. Four intelligent driving modes adjust the driving behavior accordingly. The overdrive principle allows for driving at lower revs in higher gears.

The revised braking system includes

an engine brake with up to 400 kW of power and a five-stage retarder with 600 kW of braking power. Together, this results in a wear-free braking force of 1,000 kW. Additionally, a new brake pad return spring reduces friction between the brake caliper and disc, cuts brake dust, and, according to the manufacturer, can avoid a pad change for over three years if driven appropriately.

Lower Operating Costs and Extended Maintenance Intervals

Ford Trucks estimates the savings potential in service and operating costs at around ten percent. This is based on extended maintenance intervals of up to 120,000 kilometers and new service and contract models aimed at providing greater planning security.

"With the new F-MAX GEN 2.0, Ford Trucks has really packaged an impressive 'savings package'—in the best sense. I think our visitors at the Truck Grand Prix were very pleased with that as well," summarizes Holger Hahn.
