SSI Schäfer automated the cold storage logistics center for Fresh Servant at the Edsevö site (Finland). The solution comprises a two-aisle shuttle warehouse with 10,500 container storage locations and 58 shuttles, pick-by-light workstations, as well as a continuous conveying system from packaging to palletizing. The material flows are controlled and monitored via the WAMAS Control Center. The scalable setup is designed for increasing throughput and future expansions.

SSI Schäfer implemented an automation solution for storage
and order-picking processes for Fresh Servant at the Edsevö (Finland) site in November 2025.
Fresh Servant, provider of ready-to-eat salads with Europe-wide distribution, increased automation in its logistics center due to growing demand. The goal was higher throughput in temperature-controlled storage as well as scalable processes for future capacity expansions.
System layout and material flow
The heart of the system was a shuttle warehouse with two aisles and a total of 10,500 container storage locations in the cold
storage. 58 shuttles handled automatic storage and retrieval. A conveying system connected the packaging lines with the shuttle warehouse and automatically directed the containers to the picking areas. Picked containers were returned to the shuttle warehouse and, at the shipping time, discharged by the conveyor to palletizing. Finished palletized units were moved by forklift to the outbound area.
Order picking and ergonomics
Medium- and slow-turnover items were processed in a pick-by-light area, which was designed for one to
five employees depending on workload. A separate buffer for empty containers stabilized the material flow at the manual interfaces.
IT and Control
For monitoring and control of the intralogistic processes, the WAMAS Control Center was used. The software mapped material flows and provided operational and status data of the facility in real time.
The implementation was announced in November 2025. Fresh Servant plans to extend the scalable system as needed to meet demand. (av, Source: SSI Schäfer )
