With the forklift "Linde Xi Roadster," the manufacturer Linde Material Handling (MH) expands its new electric forklift series with seven visibility-optimized models in the load capacity range up to two tons. The new vehicles are available as three-wheel and four-wheel variants and are characterized by a driver protection roof without A-pillars ("Roadster"). Combined with other constructive visibility optimizations, they enable the operator a significantly extended field of vision to the front, sides, and upwards. According to Linde MH, the resulting improved visibility increases both safety and productivity in everyday work.

The Roadster concept has been in series production at the industrial truck manufacturer Linde Material Handling since 2017.

Linde dispenses with A-pillars in the Roadster concept

The central feature of Linde Material Handling's Roadster concept is the omission of the A-pillars, which in conventional forklifts limit the field of vision to the right and left of the mast. Instead, Linde MH uses overhead tilt cylinders that allow the omission of the

A-pillars and are used exclusively in this form at Linde.

The concept is complemented by a lowered front panel for a clear view of the forks, as well as particularly slim B-pillars designed to facilitate reverse driving. An optional continuous pane of bulletproof glass is available, which allows an unobstructed upward view while reliably protecting the driver from falling objects. According to the manufacturer, it meets relevant safety standards and has been extensively tested.

"Linde Steer Control": Mini-wheel or joystick instead of a steering wheel

In addition to the visibility concept, Linde MH offers an alternative operating concept with the so-called "Linde Steer Control": Instead of the classic steering wheel, the driver can choose between a mini-wheel or a joystick. Both options are integrated into a wide armrest on the left side. The operating concept allows for more relaxed work and reduces physical strain, especially during long operations.

Electric forklift platform Xi as the basis of the Roadster

Technically, the new

Roadster models are based on the current electric forklift platform from Linde MH. The model ranges Linde Xi14 to Xi20 R (three-wheel) and Xi16 to Xi20 R (four-wheel) come standard with an integrated lithium-ion battery. This not only enables high energy efficiency but also provides space for a generously designed driver’s workplace with plenty of leg and headroom, as well as a comfortable step for getting in and out.

The forklifts are powered by synchronous reluctance motors, combining high performance with low energy consumption. The manufacturer also highlights the high residual load capacities of the new models. Efficient work should be possible even at great lift heights with heavy loads. Various equipment options – including different seat and mast variants – make the new Roadsters adaptable to individual deployment scenarios.

Reduced vibrations through decoupling of drive axle, steering axle, and mast

Another technical feature is the vibration-decoupled construction. By specifically decoupling the drive axle, steering axle, and mast, vibrations are reduced,

which increases driving comfort and reduces the strain on the driver. This contributes to the long-term health of the operating personnel according to Linde MH.

In terms of maintenance and sustainability, Linde MH relies on maintenance-free large components such as motors and batteries. Moreover, the entire vehicle architecture has been optimized for serviceability. For example, the manufacturer mentions the extension of maintenance intervals for the replacement of hydraulic oil and filters to 6,000 operating hours. This not only reduces operating costs but also lowers overall hydraulic oil consumption, minimizes waste, and shortens downtimes.

Suitable for truck loading areas and narrow aisle warehouses

The new Roadster models are especially designed for operations with bulky loads and tight spaces. Whether for precise positioning on truck loading areas or maneuvering in narrow aisle warehouses – the optimized visibility and precise driving behavior offer decisive advantages here according to Linde MH. The Roadster thus targets areas of application where visibility, safety, and ergonomics are of
