That electric trucks can be used economically in long-haul transport is demonstrated by WLX WeLink Express in Malmö, Sweden. The Swedish carrier has put the battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 into service as a tractor unit.
Road train with a length of 25.25 meters and seven axles
The long-haul-oriented eActros
600 is currently used by WLX WeLink Express for DHL as a road train with a trailer on a route of over 1,000 kilometers, which is completed by multiple drivers working together.
With a total length of up to 25.25 meters, seven axles, and a gross vehicle weight of
36 tonnes, the electric truck is on two tours between Malmö, Jönköping and Emmaboda for the international logistics provider, five days per week, for up to 18 hours per day.
It reportedly reaches a range of 500 kilometers even when only half of the daily distance has been covered
as a road train, according to the logistics provider. To increase efficiency in operation, every break is used to recharge the vehicle, according to the logistics provider. In the future, the eActros 600 should also be deployed on round trips to Gothenburg during the night shift, the report concludes.
