At Busworld 2025 (04 to 09 October in Brussels), Knorr-Bremse AG will for the first time present its fully electric EPS steering (Electric-Power-Steering) for buses. The EPS steering system is intended to offer functions that reduce operating costs and CO2 emissions in operation. In market-standard configurations, EPS steering forces of up to 8.5 kNm can be realized. The EPS steering system from Knorr-Bremse allows the connection of a hydraulic auxiliary cylinder for vehicle configurations with particularly high axle loads that require two steered front axles. The EPS steering system thus also enables the application of higher forces for adjusting the steering angle. Through its “Power-on-Demand” principle, energy and fuel consumption of the buses should be reduced, regardless of the propulsion technology. In a year, this should allow a reduction of up to about 1,000 kilograms of

CO2 per bus in the standard driving profile. In addition, the maintenance-free operation and the fact that a servo oil change is not necessary are intended to promote sustainable operation. For vehicle manufacturers, the EPS steering is designed as a highly integrated plug-and-play system.

Fusion Front and Proximity ADAS

Knorr-Bremse also presents at Busworld its driver assistance systems Fusion Front and Proximity ADAS. With the help of front cameras and radars, these systems can register information about traffic situations and relevant objects. In addition to active ADAS functions such as AEBS (Advanced Emergency Braking System),

other warning functions have been optimized specifically for use in buses:

  • LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System)
  • BSIS (Blind Spot Information System)
  • MOIS (Moving Off Information System)

Modular SYNACT Disc Brake Family and Brake Control GSBC

Also the modular SYNACT disc brake family will be exhibited in Brussels. These are available as axial or radial brakes, for both internal combustion engine buses and electric buses. Customers are expected to benefit from a weight reduction of up to 48 kilograms per bus. With the modular brake control “Global-Scalable-Brake-Control” (GSBC), the previous component diversity is to be reduced. Instead, they rely on a brake-control platform with a modular approach.
