The lubricant manufacturer Zeller+Gmelin has developed with Divinol Synthogear ETF a new Electronic Transmission Fluid (ETF) that is tailored to the requirements of electric drive systems. The product is intended to be usable in both dry and wet electric drive systems and to cover various operating conditions.
E-axles combine electric motor, transmission and power electronics in a compact assembly. Depending on the system, the fluid performs different
tasks, from lubrication and cooling to electrical insulation. In doing so, material compatibility, wear protection, and thermal stability must be present.
The composition of “Divinol Synthogear ETF”
According to Zeller+Gmelin, the new fluid is based on fully synthetic base oils and a combination of PAO and ester components. This composition is intended to enable stable lubricating performance even at high temperatures. A low viscosity also supports energy
efficiency and cold-start behavior. The controlled foaming behavior and the low air entrainment should ensure continuous cooling and lubrication.
For vehicle manufacturers and system developers, the fluid offers, according to the company, a solution for different transmission and drive concepts. It can be used in single- and multi-stage gearboxes as well as in high-voltage architectures from 400 to 800 volts. The high dielectric strength protects windings and
electronic components, while the additive technology is supposed to reduce bearing currents and erosion.
