Galaxus Germany opened the first of two logistics centers at the Neuenburg am Rhein site on October 13 after 13 months of construction. Around 50 employees are on site at the start. In the medium term, around 1,200 employees are expected to serve Galaxus customers in Switzerland and the EU in both halls, according to a press release from Galaxus dated October 14.
The bulk parts warehouse, internally named "ON1" (Operations Center Neuenburg 1), is located in Neuenburg's industrial estate on the eastern side of Hans-Buck-Straße. It is now being gradually filled with washing machines, sofas, refrigerators, garden furniture, and more. On 30,000 square meters of storage and office space, a new logistics hub is thus being created directly adjacent to the A5 motorway, in the tri-border area of
Germany, Switzerland and France.
‘In ON1 the basic structure and first tenant fit-outs have already been completed,’ said Michael Stolle, COO of Digitec Galaxus AG and Managing Director of Galaxus Deutschland. ‘Currently we are still working on expanding the infrastructure, that is, on shelves, workstations and our network. However, the first packages will already be able to leave the warehouse by the end of this week.’
‘Neuenburg will play an important role for our Swiss business,’ added Florian Teuteberg, founder and CEO of Digitec Galaxus AG. ‘Our warehousing capacity in Switzerland is exhausted – with the new site we create the prerequisites to continue growing. Galaxus is also planning further logistics sites in the Swiss municipalities of Rafz and Utzensdorf. These could not be realized so far due to local objections and are being delayed.
The second warehouse hall "ON2" will be built a stone's throw away from "ON1" in Neuenburg am Rhein, west of Hans-Buck-Straße on a site of up to 60,000 square meters. By 2030, Galaxus intends to employ 1,200 logistics specialists, as well as staff for technology & IT, HR, project management, and supply chain management in Neuenburg.
In 2025, Galaxus will start in Neuenburg with around 50 employees; year by year, this number is expected to rise significantly. A site manager for ON1 has already been appointed: Thomas Decke. Decke will join on
November 1 from the laundry company Elis and has previously gained management experience in online retail at Amazon. Galaxus has also already recruited logistics team leaders and HR professionals in Neuenburg. Additionally, the online retailer held two casting days promoted via social media in the nearby cities of Freiburg (D) and Mulhouse (F) to recruit logistics personnel. 120 interested individuals registered, 80 attended, and 34 were ultimately hired at the end of the process.
Also ON2 is already progressing well in construction, so the Galaxus teams will be able to enter this hall for the first time by the end of the year. The year 2026 will then be needed to install the technical systems. The actual operation with its own staff in ON2 will start at Galaxus around
