For the BVL Supply Chain CX 2025, which takes place in Berlin from 22 to 24 October, the NG.network freight forwarding network has published the second edition of the Piece Goods Report. In the report, the network highlights current challenges and relevant developments for piece-goods players. NG.network's own perspective is complemented by a qualitative trend analysis as well as contributions from experts.
The focus of this year's report, according to NG.network, is on ecological sustainability. By October 7, NG.network stated that, as Germany's first piece-goods network, it had operationally introduced a "green corridor." "We, as logisticians, can no longer afford to treat sustainability as
a nice-to-have. Sustainability must move to the center of corporate strategies, not only to contribute and take our share of social responsibility, but also to remain future-proof and thus market-relevant, for example with regard to rising CO2 prices," said Stephan Opel, Managing Director of NG.network.
Kostendruck hemmt nachhaltige Transformation
The trend analysis and a qualitative survey of three major German piece-goods networks confirm, according to NG.network, that sustainability not only plays a central role in NG.network's corporate strategy and day-to-day operations. However, it also becomes clear that cost pressure strongly hinders sustainable transformation.
Digitization and artificial intelligence could serve as catalysts for sustainability, the
report continued. Guest authors Dr. David Saive, attorney and Product Owner at the Open Logistics Foundation, and Volker Albrecht, CEO of Siemens Digital Logistics, accordingly argued for greater process digitization to safely and efficiently unlock potentials and reduce costs. Dr. Christoph Tripp, Professor of Distribution and Retail Logistics at the Technical University of Nuremberg Georg Simon Ohm, explains in the Piece Goods Report that organizing SMEs in networks that function as innovation platforms represents another key to sustainable transformation.
The NG.network Piece Goods Report 2025 also deals with concrete approaches to solutions and technologies. For example, Christoph Burkard, who has steered the HyWheels cluster
