At the German Packaging Award 2025, 37 innovations were honored. In total, more than 200 submissions from 15 countries and three continents were entered into the competition across materials. An independent panel of experts evaluated all entries and awarded 37 of them, the German Packaging Institute (dvi) announced in a press release on July 23, 2025. The award ceremony will take place on September 23, 2025, during the Fachmesse FACHPACK in Nuremberg. The winners of the Gold Awards will also be announced. Winners of the German Packaging Award with a Gold designation are honored for outstanding solutions.

In the various competition categories, four contributions were recognized for functionality, four for design, 14 in the area of sustainability, one each for new material as well as for machinery, technology, technology, or software. Three solutions convinced in the category of cost efficiency, three in product presentation. In the newcomer category, two contributions were awarded. Five awards were given in the category Material Flow & Logistics.
Wide range of applications
The awarded developments are aimed at B2C and B2B applications. They range from
product, shipping, transport, and re-packaging to strapping bands, displays, and bubble wrap to labels, in-mold labels, and machines. According to the dvi, progress has been made on issues such as sustainability, circular economy, product protection, handling, branding, and user-friendliness. Areas of application include the food, consumer goods, construction and spare parts industries, chemical liquids, as well as components such as solar panels and heat pumps.
According to the dvi managing director Dr. Natalie Brandenburg, many contributions set new standards, such as in closed-loop systems, reusability, bio-based materials, mono-material connections, barrier functions, residue emptying, or single-variety recyclability.
Two days of jury deliberations
Brandenburg emphasized that the more than 200 submissions showed how companies develop innovative solutions for people, the economy, and the environment despite difficult
conditions. The jury personally reviewed and discussed all submissions in a two-day process.
Award ceremony in September
The award ceremony will take place together with dvi partners FACHPACK, Igepa Group, Sappi, and Mitsubishi Electric at FACHPACK (September 23 to 25). The awards will be presented on stage and the three Gold Awards announced. Registration for the event is required, participation is free of charge.
