The Bünting Group has broken ground on an automated fresh-storage warehouse in Nortmoor. The food storage facility, which will cover a total area of around 6,500 square meters, will integrate new conveying, storage and refrigeration technology, the Bünting Group said in a press release on September 16. Commissioning is planned for the first quarter of 2027.

“With this construction project, the Bünting Group is achieving another milestone in improving its logistics structures,” said Helge Christian Eilers, Managing Director of

Bünting SCM/Logistics. “Through centrally managed logistics, including distribution and market supply, a future-proof solution will be created.”

At the heart of the facility will be a fully automated shuttle warehouse including pre-zone robotics from the intralogistics expert Swisslog: With 34,500 container storage positions and modular expandability the facility meets the current requirements of the Bünting Group and is also prepared for future volume growth.

The storage architecture is based on a Bünting concept specification developed by via-Log Logistik Beratung

GmbH, a specialist in the development of efficient logistics solutions. The construction will be carried out by Goldbeck. The facility is designed for storage at controlled temperatures between zero and two degrees Celsius.

The new shuttle warehouse combines fully automated processes with high storage density. By reducing manual work processes, the efficiency of warehousing is increased. Equipped with modern conveying technology systems and automated pre-zone robotics, the facility is intended to ensure that both goods movement and delivery are

further optimized. Despite the high level of automation, operation of the facility will directly create up to 14 new jobs, with additional positions possible through future expansions and optimizations.

The Bünting Group is counting on scalability and long-term investments with this project. Even in the planning phase, the facility was designed to be expandable, which, according to the group, offers an advantage given the dynamic developments in the grocery retail sector as well as increasing demands on logistics networks.
