The manufacturer of roof drainage systems Zambelli Fertigungs GmbH & Co. KG relies on the expertise of SSI Schäfer for the construction of an automated logistics center in Grafenau. On September 12, the first symbolic groundbreaking for the new warehouse took place. The range of the international corporate group with eight locations in four countries comprises over 17,500 items in the roof drainage sector alone, SSI Schäfer announced on September 24 in a press release.
The centerpiece of
the solution is a high-bay warehouse in silo construction, which with 6,848 pallet storage locations offers high storage density on a small footprint. Four "Exyz rack-handling devices" by SSI are intended to ensure 24/7 availability and direct access to every item — for high throughput and flexibility, even at seasonal peaks. Since the compact racking system itself serves as a load-bearing structure for the roof and walls, there is no need to build an additional hall — according
to the provider, this significantly shortens the installation time.
"For our new warehouse, we did not want an isolated solution, but a flexible overall system that optimally supports us in our business processes," said Johannes Ranzinger, managing director at Zambelli. "The SSI Schäfer solution literally brings together our diverse requirements under one roof and provides us with room for future growth."
Within the front building of Zambelli's logistics center, on two levels the areas for goods receipt, picking,
and shipping are laid out. On the upper floor, three picking stations will be installed, complemented by a pallet wrapper and an empty-pallet magazine. The connection to the lower level is via a pallet lift. Through four buffer lines, the pallets are then routed to the shipping area. Additionally, a conveyor bridge and two pallet lifters connect the new warehouse with the existing building to consolidate goods from the new build with long goods in the existing building.
