In Pfronten in the Allgäu, BDT develops, produces and markets electronic components, assemblies and complete systems for data acquisition, registration and control technology. BDT stands for Bavaria Digital Technik GmbH. Whether prototype or serial production, hardware or software, engineering, mechanical design, testing, type approval, logistics or service – BDT accompanies many customer projects from the first idea to the fully assembled delivery. At the Pfronten site, around 50 Cab Magazine units from Cab Produkttechnik, Series 700, stack PCBs in carriers for their undamaged
transport and keep them ready for the next manufacturing steps. Within the production and assembly lines, the Cab carrier separator MAESTRO 5 occasionally separates the PCBs.
The Cab Magazine is made, according to the supplier, from electrically conductive plastic. The rigid frame construction supports continuous operation in production. When PCB sizes vary, the magazines can be adjusted to new widths on a toothed belt. For use in systems with a higher-level control, in which loaders take over PCB transport, Cab Magazine offers versions
whose movable side wall automatically adjusts after being placed on the loader.
At BDI, the batch in a single order comprises up to 5,000 printed circuit boards. The MAESTRO 5 carrier separator can, according to the supplier, simultaneously separate up to 15 PCBs arranged in multiple carriers. The spacing and number of roll knives are adjusted to the PCB. Stable and well-made knife rollers yield clean separation points. For a high running life, the roll knives are hardened, ground and titanium-coated.

insert the carriers into the MAESTRO 5 guide. It would also be possible to automatically feed carriers via a charging station or an external conveyor belt. After separation, the PCBs are transported on an integrated conveyor belt. In further production processes, robots move the separated PCBs through additional assemblies to the finished product of BDT, such as modules for trailer monitoring in rail vehicles, PLC controls in industrial electronics, nerve stimulators in medical technology, or protocol converters for combined heat and power plants.
