The Bako Group, a supplier of bakery ingredients and bakery products in the United Kingdom, is relying on the voice-guided solution “LYDIA Voice” from EPG (Ehrhardt Partner Group) for the digitalisation of its warehouse logistics. The software provider recently announced this in a press release. With the introduction of pick-by-voice technology, Bako is modernising its picking processes.

The rollout started at the largest warehouse at the Preston site, where weekly more than 74,000 items from the ambient, frozen, and refrigerated goods ranges are processed. Shortly after the introduction, the provider reported: LYDIA VOICE convinces with

easy operation, flexibility, and an efficiency gain. After the successful first weeks, the solution was already extended to additional sites, including a newly acquired warehouse in Northern Ireland.

The AI-powered speech recognition in LYDIA VOICE works, according to EPG, without prior training and responds reliably, even in loud warehouse environments. For on-site users this means: put on the headset and start right away.

“With LYDIA you don’t have to set up anything or worry about background noise. The employees can start immediately, as in a normal conversation. That is exactly what convinces the team the

most,” explains Dan Oxley, Assistant Warehouse Manager at the Preston site.

The immediate readiness for use not only significantly reduces the onboarding time for new employees but also increases acceptance within the workforce.

“Regardless of what requirement we had, the answer was always: yes, that works. This flexibility convinced us,” says Oxley.

The partnership is also highlighted by EPG.

“Bako had recognized that the previous Voice solution no longer offered innovation. With LYDIA Voice we are setting a new standard for intuitive operation, rapid onboarding, and high ergonomics. We are very pleased to have gained

Bako as a strong partner,” says Gavin Clark, Country Manager EPG UK.

The rollout was carried out without major additional effort, as the system is immediately ready for use and does not require long training periods. Currently around 75 employees are using the solution, a further 20 to 30 users are expected to join shortly. The close contact with EPG also contributes to the success. “If we have a question, a phone call is enough. Within a few minutes we receive a solution and do not have to wait days for an answer,” emphasizes Oxley.
