The Port of Rotterdam Authority has joined the Responsible Commodities Sourcing Initiative (Recosi). The initiative supports companies with industry-specific frameworks on environmental, social, and compliance issues along the supply chains for energy and raw materials, as seen in a press release from August 12.

With this membership, the Port of Rotterdam Authority aims to strengthen responsible supply chains through the port. The Port of Rotterdam is the largest seaport in Europe and home to around 3,000 companies. As a

hub for global supply chains, the organization is closely connected with their various segments. In cases of questions or concerns, it reportedly aligns with the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and collaborates with customers and partners to prevent or reduce potential violations of human rights, labor conditions, environmental standards, and anti-corruption regulations.

Katie Warrick, Executive Director of Recosi, emphasizes:

“The Port of Rotterdam Authority has joined Recosi at a time of growth for our organization. Together with our members,

we are developing programs to help them diversify their energy supply and minimize risks in the supply chain. We focus on key ESG topics where collaboration plays a crucial role in driving change. Therefore, we are even more pleased to welcome the largest port in Europe as a strong partner in our initiative.”

“The Port of Rotterdam Authority is mainly connected to the chain segments where there are concerns through services for its customers,” explains Michiel Nijdam, Director of

Strategy at the Port of Rotterdam Authority. “That's why we almost always work with other actors along the supply chain — including our customers — to achieve improvements. We do this by carefully identifying problems and leveraging our influence to find solutions. In practice, this means bringing stakeholders together to raise awareness or prompt action, providing our knowledge or network, or advocating for suitable laws and regulations. Recosi helps us further improve our approach to raw material and energy
