The Riedstadt-based logistics service provider Transgourmet has converted its entire Hamburg truck fleet to the climate-friendly fuel biogas since mid-May. According to the provider, around 400 customers from the gastronomy and communal catering sectors in the Hanseatic city will henceforth be supplied completely climate-friendly. The site operates its own biogas filling station for this purpose and also relies on
low-emission solutions such as photovoltaic systems, waste heat utilization, roof greening and green electricity for building technology. This emerges from a press release dated August 12.
According to the statement, the biogas is extracted from organic residues. Only as much CO₂ is released as the residues have previously bound. This reduces the CO₂ burden and simultaneously contributes to the
circular economy: Waste is converted into climate-friendly energy. According to the company, Hamburg saves as much CO₂ annually as about 190 car journeys around the Earth. In addition, dependence on fossil energies is reduced, and the decarbonization of the transport sector is advanced.
With the project, Transgourmet participates in the Hamburg Environmental Partnership and collaborates with the city and
businesses for more climate protection. Furthermore, the company supports the association Heckenretter (e. V.) in planting native shrubs in the Alte Land to promote biodiversity and regional climate protection measures.
